poutine

This is poutine - technically french fries, covered in gravy and cheese curds.  I have to admit, even though it's something Quebec is known for, I never tried it once in all three years I lived here last time.  It just really doesn't look that tasty.
Then Seb was eating drunk poutine, I started eating his, fast forward a few weeks and I went out in the rain, sick, just because all I wanted to eat was Patati Patata's poutine. It's so good.  All warm and soggy and salty.  Just great.

  2. I don't get poutine. I had some in New York last year, and I was so grossed out by it. Admittedly yours looks better than what I had, maybe I just didn't get it from the right place?

  3. omg french (-canadian) poutine is the BEST. i grew up in ottawa (which is across the river from gatineau, qc) and woah do those chip trucks ever make heavenly poutine. i really miss it in toronto. sigh.

(also, hi! i totally sneaked a peek at your blog when jenny posted it on her blog... :)

  4. it's an olive! they put an olive on top of everything, even their fish burgers.

Jenny, i think the key is to be a little sloshed your first time. It seems far more appealing a few beers in (there is also a fast quality difference between places)

(hello to you! I don't think we have chip trucks here, but now I really want to find one...)

  5. mmm. that looks so good. I've actually never had "authentic" poutine, only copied versions here in california (shoestring fries with bad gravy and mozzarella cheese). btw, do quebec curds squeak too?

  6. ...no chip trucks?! hmm. well if you ever visit ottawa/hull, there are some fabulous options for your dining pleasure. haha. i'm pretty sure everywhere in quebec knows how to make some kick-ass poutine. (and yes, qc cheese curds squeak like crazy! mmm...)

  7. Oh man do they squeak. SO STRANGE, I'll have to hit up the chip trucks. I had the good fortune to be in Portland during their food truck festival, that food converted me to anything coming from a moving vehicle (Van Leeuwin ice cream?!)

  8. I LOVE the stuff. I live just down the street from La Banquise and eat much more hot dog poutine than I ought to. Yes, I'm gross.
