dark side of the moon dress

This weekend Seb was busy studying for exams, and in an effort of solidarity (haha, like I wouldn't have done it anyways), I stayed home and sewed a dress all weekend.

I love that in making things for myself I can make them exactly how I want.  My problem with dresses with fitted busts is that they are almost all too long in the body for me.  But I can shorten that!  And take things in in different places, or add bust padding.

This was my first time sewing boning or doing any sort of structured lining.  It took time, but wasn't so hard.  Definitely worth it, because this dress holds itself up like a charm.  A perfect use for my liberty dark side of the moon fabric, the last liberty in my stash.

  5. So beautiful! Did you work from a pattern, or is this entirely your own design? Either way- it's fantastic!

    1. Thanks! It was a vogue pattern - 1174, I think. I altered the heck out of the fit and construction, but left the design almost entirely intact. I'm trying to use patterns these days, I find I learn more and push myself that way.

  6. I love your dress. I'm getting married in 3 months and want to make my fiance a shirt of this fabric. He is such a huge Pink Floyd fan. Do you know of any place online that still sells this?

    1. I just did a search around for it, it seems challenging. I bought mine when I went to Liberty a couple of years ago, so not much help there.

This site has it in a different colour-way, by the looks of things:

The only other suggestion I have is maybe calling Purl Soho? They only have a couple Liberty fabrics online, but they have way more in store.

The fabric is a Liberty Art Fabric, designed by Storm Thorgerson, if that helps. Even Etsy had nothing! Good luck!

  7. Thank you so much! I ordered a good bit of it. Our first granddaughter may end up with a smocked DSOTM dress. Hopefully not for a good 10 years though because my eldest child is still in high school! It just wasn't a good time to buy any when they released it and I hadn't been able to find it since.
