balcony gardening

This weekend has been the perfect storm of sunny weather, Seb being finished for the semester, and break between semesters of school for me.  We dusted, we cleaned windows, we hung our laundry outdoors, we vacuumed behind the furniture.  Especially, we made trips to Ikea to pick up such normally owned things as kitchen tea towels and a grater that works, and to Jean-Talon market, this giant outdoor farmers market that fills practically a whole city block.  We picked up veggies, but also plant seed!  I'll keep you posted as to how it all turns out (I have a giant brown thumb when it comes to keeping plants alive), but now we have planted on our little balcony: beans, peas, kale, spinach, arugula, basil, oregano, lavender, and strawberries.  Hopefully it will be able to provide us with some tasty treats in a little while!

  1. i'm trying to do the same with herbs + tomatoes (except our growing area is a back deck, rather than a balcony), and i'm worried about my black thumb! i guess we'll just have to see, right? good luck! :)
