thumb flap mittens

Of all the traits I'm glad were passed down from my dad, my terrible circulation is not one of them.  Last winter the thing that annoyed me most about the cold was taking my mittens off to change music or text on my phone.  I have a pretty long walk to and from work, and my hands got so cold!  So this winter I decided to do something about that and make mittens I don't have to take off to use my thumbs.  Ta-da!

I used Madeline Tosh yarn for the first time (seriously, best gift ever!), and it is a joy - super soft and squishy, hard to break, and clearly great colours (I had such a hard time getting photos of these because they were so bright!).  Finally, can you even believe these fall colours?!  I feel like I was in shorts just last week.

  1. THAT IS SUCH AN AMAZING IDEA. (please tell me you will be selling these? or at least their pattern?!) i'm always freezing too!! and waiting until you're on the streetcar/bus/subway/whatever to text someone back just isn't feasible, haha. maybe i should make some with a camera shutter-finger flap? :)

    1. Thank you! The mittens haven't been put to practical use quite yet, but I can't wait!
